Tiered Tray Decorated for Christmas

A couple of months ago, I wrote a blog post about my favorite items to use on my tiered tray and now that we have sent out our December subscription box projects, I can officially show this Christmas-inspired tiered tray as this month's project! So, for those who do not know, we send out a DIY home decor project to all of our subscribing members and it is always a mystery to them until everyone receives their box. We have been wanting to bring a tiered tray to our members and, being that it is the holiday season, I decorated one in a Christmas theme for the project card that comes in the box. a tiered tray on a kitchen island decorated for Christmas

When I wrote the last blog post about my favorite items to use on my (huge) tiered tray, I had in mind that I wanted to be able to bring our members a version of a tiered tray and knew that it needed to have certain elements. I wanted it to be able to hold mugs, possibly with some greens inside. It also had to have a pretty and curvy pedestal type base holding up the upper tier.

The project also had to fit inside one of the box sizes to which we are limited. Oh- and it also had to be DIY but not to the point that members had to have specific tools that would not necessarily be in their homes already. And, as always, we wanted this project to be as versatile as possible, so we worked with a local woodworker to come up with a design that fit all criteria.

UPDATE as of July 13, 2020: we have now sent out our July Boxed Up subscription boxes and they contained items to decorate the tiered tray mentioned above!

This tiered tray can be set up in three different ways.

You could set it up just like above with the tiers directly above each other. OR you can slide the top tier back so that it is centered one way but off to the side from another view. a tiered tray sitting on a kitchen island decorated with Christmas items

OR you can put the pedestal in the corner and have the top tier off set in once corner. Like I said, we like options! a tiered tray sitting on a kitchen island decorated for Christmas

For this tiered tray, I was really liking the pops of red against the distressed white paint.

I gathered some items I already had such as a little salt shaker hot cocoa cup, and a red chalkboard mug. A couple of little red and white signs were the perfect pop and always add greenery! It's easy to get some longer stems or garlands and pull off individual pieces so that you have small pieces to layer or stick in between your tiered tray items. A Rae Dunn mug serves as as the holder for a boxwood pot in one of my photos above.

I was actually able to fit quite a few things but yet this Christmas-inspired tiered tray is still petite enough to hold coffee bar accessories on a kitchen counter or perhaps some bathroom pampering items beside a bathroom tub. This would be a great centerpiece for a kitchen table. It would look pretty inside a large deep cabinet with glass doors. It would work on a dining room buffet or server – with ornaments or decorative balls. Or maybe it could even serve as a hot cocoa bar organizer! Here's mine by our tub.

Update as of July 13, 2020: My tiered tray now resides on top of our master bathroom counter! Our bathroom got some updates last month and I love it's new purpose and look! white tiered tray used for storage on a bathroom countertop

Where to look for tiered tray decor items…

For tiered trays in the kitchen, look for seasonal or decorative straws in places like the Target Dollar Spot or in the bins right by registers in other stores like Michael's or Joann Fabrics. I found those cute Christmas tree stirrers in the Target Dollar Spot a couple of years ago. (You'd be amazed at what you can get in those bins!)

Soon our members will be posting their versions of these tiered trays inside the private Facebook group and we get so excited to see what they all do because they are all so different! I actually got a sneak peek at one member's project and she gave me permission to show you! a tiered tray sitting on a dining room server decorated for Christmas

This was a project that we wanted our members to have that did not HAVE to be Christmas themed. I mean who needs another project that has to be done before the holidays?. We liked the idea that it could be changed out however and whenever desired!

Where can you get one of our adjustable tiered trays?

Are you dying to get your hands on one of these DIY tiered trays for yourself? You can grab one HERE while supplies last! And, if you think this is exactly the kind of subsciption box you'd like to be part of, you have just hours left to get in before we close the doors again until January! By subscribing before the 10th of each month, you secure your starting box with the upcoming month. So if you get in by December 10th, your first box would be the January box. We ship them out on the 1st weekday of each month (so, as close to the first of each month as possible).

If you missed out on one of ours, you can find these in many stores and online. I've seen them on Amazon, in stores like Homegoods and Hobby Lobby and there are many on Etsy as well.

I hope you like our Christmas-themed tiered tray project for BOXED UP this month! Oh, and did I mention you can purchase a gift subscription also? Just sayin'…

Update as of July 13, 2020: Keep an eye out for our monthly live sales on Facebook! We've been featuring a themed tiered tray set every month!
